Slow Play - revisited

Gentlemen, I must commend you on your efforts to speed up play.  Better times have been posted since our warning from the Parks Board, and it is encouraging to see that most of you have been heeding the warning from your Club Captain.  However, we must continue to maintain our vigilance, and try to keep improving our pace of play.  Keep in mind that if you are warned by the course marshal for slow play, you may be penalized by the Rules/Handicap committee.  Also, if the marshal moves you to a different tee box to speed your pace, or if he moves you to the next hole to catch up to the group in front, your entire group will be disqualified from the tournament.  No exceptions.

So, it is up to each and every one of you to encourage all the players in your group to be aware of their pace.  The best way to keep up is to always prepare for your next shot BEFORE you reach your ball.  Keep an eye out for the yardage markers (and remember - it's not against the rules to give your fellow players advice on distance), pick an appropriate club, visualize your shot, then execute!

Also, limit your searches for balls in hazards - for even if you find the ball, you are probably going to take penalties for unplayables, etc.  Slow play hurts us all.  If you hit a bad shot, take your medicine, and play on.  Usually the worst that could happen is it costs you a stroke or two.  If you slow up the club, you may jeopardize all our privileges - which is a much more significant loss.

Look for 'Rule of the Week' in upcoming blogs.  That's all for now.

Sincerely,

Christian Guenette

Chair, Rules/Handicap Committee
